» » The Upgrade: Blackberry OS 10

The Nigerian online shopping websites like Kaymu.com.ng and Jumia has had its fair share of these gadgets since it first came into the market. Without a doubt, we all know that Nigerians love new mobile smartphones and gadgets and at the announcement of the upgrade to OS 10 by Blackberry, the buzz had already gotten people into a frenzy of picking up one for themselves as soon as it was launched into the market for purchase. The hype was so much that people had pre-ordered for the first batch of phones with the OS 10 on the online stores in Nigeria.

When BlackBerry 10 was first introduced on the BlackBerry Z10, there had been some noticeable things missing that simply ought to have been there from the beginning. For old BlackBerry users, moving from BlackBerry OS 7 to BlackBerry 10, some massive functions appeared to have been there were simply kicked to the curb, such as custom notifications for contacts, side mode, and deleting messages server-side but not specifically restricted to just these ones that were mentioned. Updates to BlackBerry 10 showed that there were certain functions missing from the beginning, and it seemed the developers had just woken up from a slumber.

The first major update was with OS 10.1. This brought on several tweaks and bugs fixes and enclosed updates for native apps like Twitter and Facebook and also a few other technical additions and fixes. It had been a good update and arrived simply six months after the launch of BB10, however it still left users wanting a lot more to be added.
Then came the arrival of OS 10.2. This one came with all types of recent options and was arguably what BB10 was up to when it launched nine months earlier. OS 10.2 offered up new options like instant preview and reply, priority hub, camera updates, multiple alarms among the clock app, lock screen previews and far much more.
OS 10.2 was wide adopted by several carriers across the world, however some set to skip 10.2 in favor of OS 10.2.1, an update that may bring on even much more of new options. On January 28, 2014, BlackBerry began their international rollout of OS 10.2.1 to carriers across the world.
Getting started with BlackBerry 10 is straight forward and can be easily adapted to; you can set it up without a data or Wi-Fi connection. On the previous versions you would have needed a Wi-Fi connection or an active cellular data in order to start up the setup process but now, you can setup up on a more simplified mode that will give you access to use your phone without a data connection present and you can return to finish the setup when you have data connection present or after five days you will be prompted to complete the setup which would require a data connection.
If you haven’t used OS 10.2.1 before (or BlackBerry 10 in general), not to worry, you have an on-device tutorial that may walk you through the fundamentals of navigating the OS and mastering the gestures.
The hub is one of the unique features of the OS 10. The BlackBerry Hub may be accessed by swiping up and to the right from anywhere within the OS, or from the BlackBerry Hub icon. The Hub is no doubt the main part of BlackBerry 10, so having 2 ways to fast access it isn’t such a bad idea. You can either swipe your way into the Hub, or opt to make use of the icon, or even use both, whichever way pleases you.
Apps are uniquely and evenly laid out across the home screen. There also are permanent icons for phone, camera and search laid along the bottom of the screen. These cannot be modified, but you will be able to move around any app icon as you would like.

Navigating around BlackBerry 10 is completed through a series of gestures, swipe up & to the right to get to the Hub and left to scroll through your home screens. In an application you will have to swipe up from the bottom edge to close or minimize the app or down from the top to access the settings.
BlackBerry 10 has extremely evolved since last year that it was launched. The app system has progressed tremendously, not solely due to lots of native app development, but also having the ability to directly tap parts of the android system. BBM going cross-platform ensures you’re continuously going to be involved with the important friends, family and people in your life.

The other blackberry phones that have the OS 10 are the Blackberry Q10, Q5, Z30, Z3 and all these can be gotten on the online retails stores and marketplaces in Nigeria.

At this time, BlackBerry 10 is way above what it was when it was first launched and is currently a joy to use. Is there any room for improvement? Definitely! However, BlackBerry is continuously improving the OS and it’s currently a lot better than ever and one good thing is: the prices are now very affordable in Nigeria. You can find a cheap blackberry z10 here whether you are looking for a new or used blackberry smartphone.
